Psybersafe October 2025 Newsletter
We’re not lazy.
We’re efficient.

In this issue...

This month, we explore why even smart people still reuse passwords (ps. it is not laziness!) and some highlights from exciting events we attended, including a new launch. Three tips to keep your mobile shopping safe ahead of Black Friday, plus find out who has joined our Psybersafe programme this month.

We’re not lazy. We’re efficient: Why everyone still reuses passwords

Let’s be honest, we have all done it.  Another account, another password, and before you know it, you’ve just added an exclamation mark and the current year to the same old favourite password.

This month’s blog digs into why even the smartest people still reuse passwords and spoiler alert; it’s not laziness!  Discover the sneaky but clever psychology behind password habits, how hackers exploit our "mental shortcuts," and what really works to keep your accounts safe.

What we’ve been up to

It’s been a busy October for Team Psybersafe!

On 7 October, our Founder and CEO Mark Brown took the stage at the Belgian Cyber Security Coalition’s BE_CYBER event, unpacking The Psychology of Social Engineering: why smart people get hacked. Using Dr. Robert Cialdini’s persuasion principles, Mark showed how hackers exploit Authority and Scarcity to trick even the sharpest minds and how behavioural insight helps stop them.

Then, on 9 October, Mark teamed up with Bas Wouters and Marieke Dam to launch the Online Influence Lab — a new space dedicated to exploring how behavioural science drives our choices online.

3 quick cyber security tips for online shopping using your mobile

I know we keep on harping on about the dangers of online shopping, but with Black Friday looming, it is important to remind ourselves again.

Mobile shopping is convenient, but it also makes you a bigger target for cyber scams. And with all the Black Friday bargains, we’re even more likely to be tricked. Fake apps, unsecured networks, and unnoticed charges can turn a great deal into a major headache.
